General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI realize this is purely anecdotal, but I don't see Trump signs all over the place like I did in 2016 and 2020.
As I've been driving around town and in rural areas of this deep red state, I have been watching for campaign signs. I see a lot of signs for local and statewide candidates, but I can't recall the last Trump sign I've seen. In 2020, people around here were littering their yards with signs, driving around in trucks with multiple flags and stickers and wearing MAGA hats and t-shirts. This year, nada.
To be fair, I'm not seeing Harris/Walz signs either, so I don't know if this is a good sign or not, but it does seem like the enthusiasm for Trump is waning, at least in my neck of the woods.

I live in a fairly red county, the other elections, there was a LOT of TSF signage out, with a few scattered "D" signs. Our signs are a bit fewer, but the TSF signs are WAY down in a lot of spots.
ETA: For grins and giggles, "and trolling", I found the number to the local Rethug office, and asked them if they had any signs. THEY DIDN'T!!! The reason they gave, was that the local campaign didn't want to put any excess money out, as this was a "red" area. So no free signs for the yahoos. I could go online to the TSF organization, and buy some, but I said "no thanks".

(29,727 posts)By this time in 2020, both were prevalent - the enthusiasm seems to be much weaker than 4 years ago. Purely anecdotal, as well, but noticeable.

(29,727 posts)They might just stay home if they can't be bothered to put a sign out (or fly their stupid flags). I have one die-hard neighbor who still had their flag out (as of last weekend - I haven't been outside to look since the due to illness) but they're anti-social, negative nabobs (to paraphrase Spiro Agnew) to begin with. Not expecting them to change. We (myself and the other neighbors in my little subdivision) refer to them as Adolf and Eva...

(1,057 posts)It's been eight years since 2016 and four since 2020. Trump draws the most support from white, less than college educated, and older than 50 crowd. More Republicans than Democrats ended up dying from COVID. A lot of Trump's supporters have died off from other causes.
It might be a sign that the predicted Republican demographic decline is here.

(8,920 posts)but after the vaccine came out, red areas got walloped and there was ultimately a big disparity in red v blue deaths, with the red team winning that contest by dying in far greater numbers.

(931 posts)I've seen zero Harris/Waltz signs, but fewer Trump signs than prior years. I am in a super red area, so no Harris/Dem stuff is the norm, but I am surprised by not seeing Trump stuff everywhere I turn. It's there, but seriously cut back.

(32,761 posts)2020 is when it kinda went nuts around here.
I see less than 2020, but I attribute some of it to Covid. Many had nothing better to do. The Trump trains caught on because they didn't violate Covid restrictions.

(189,335 posts)I cant say Ive seen any signs for Trump. In Richmond lots of Harris Walz signs but the city always votes heavy Dem.
Im in the burbs west of the city which flipped Dem with Obama in 2008. Youngkin was a fluke

(10,280 posts)Trump signs have multiplied like bunnies in the past two weeks in my area. I was feeling a bit confident sign-wise, but than I ran errands last weekend. And I'm not even counting the guy up the street, who's had Trump 2024 signs up since 2020. And I'm not in red PA technically, it's more purple here. We have zero Harris signs at the moment, although I know they exist. Weirdly, we don't have either party's Senate nominee signs - a race that could flip the Senate.

(1,696 posts)Trump had planned to hand over ground game to third parties. Will the third parties do that job with enthusiasm on election day? We will know on Nov 5th. Trump had instructed his campaign that no field offices are needed. He said to them he is the draw and there is no need. That may be true as a cult figure. However, what will happen if he is down around Nov 5th? No one knows. Hen e, it is important for enough negative campaigning.
By the way, I am giving this info based on reading good articles.

(189,335 posts)I know theres supposedly going to be poll watchers okay 3%ers to intimidate and probably slow down voting. My experience has been that theres a ground game for canvassing and calls (and giving out signs) and then there are poll volunteers. In Virginia, the watchers from parties IN the voting area have to register with the Commonwealth. Outside could be people from the ground game office handing out materials or just being there as advertising.
If he really actually did farm this out my spidey sense could see something like his inauguration where they WAY over paid friends of theres and who knows where all the money ended up.

(23,055 posts)His campaign is a cult of personality that is relying on free TV and Internet coverage. I guess they're running ads. But local GOP has been suffering as the RNC has become just another money laundering center. Without those safe districts, the GOP would probably be in deep trouble.

(189,335 posts)As posted above, he supposedly farmed out the ground game to third parties. If you remember, a lot of money went to friends for his inauguration many of which had just been set up.

(6,315 posts)In 2020, there were flags and signs everywhere, only an occasional Biden-Harris sign, in that stretch of about 70 miles of mostly two lane highway through the farms and fields and small towns, I counted 8 Trump signs. There were a decent scattering of Harris signs at either end, in Kenosha and in Janesville.
I help with weekend canvassing in Kenosha, even though I live in Illinois. It's been fun. The Democratic turnout might just be a surprise this time around, like it was in 2008.

(27,530 posts)Here in Bangor, Maine, during his last effort, certain neighborhoods were littered with signs supporting The Orange One. This time there are relatively few. (32,761 posts)2020 was a crazy year
I think the flags and Trump trains were popular in response to Covid restrictions.
Now one of the Trump train guys is being sued.
We saw a car with pictures of Trump all over it yesterday. Hubby took a pic.
I see plenty of Trump bumper stickers.
I'm not seeing as many of the big old flags like 2020.
Incidentally, I did not see Trump flags or signs in 2016.
I do think the crazy Trump trains and flotilla were a response to Covid restrictions.
Can't have rallies? Let's have trains?

Self Esteem
(1,990 posts)In 2020, there was far more visibility from Trump supporters. Lots of flags, boat parades and just a much larger presence. I think because he was the incumbent, it made his supporters more open about their support.
But after everything, we're back to that shy support where people might not want to advertise it, just like 2016.
There was a brief moment after that shooting where many rushed to show their support but it's faded.
Now that doesn't mean I think Trump wins like in 2016 but we can't get complacent and think his support has died out. A lot of it just seems to have gone quiet.

Those people dont exist this round because the cash is going to tsf.
It isnt that support isnt there, there is no staff to push out the signs.

(3,767 posts)Doesnt allow political signs out for awhile. Kind of nice since its a very red area. The regulations changed a few years back. I think you cant put them up until 30 days from the election and have to take them down within a certain time. The big problem was the tfg signs. Down the road from me one house had over 20 signs up including a few of the big ones. Maybe 6x3. And I remember seeing them months after the election.

(10,280 posts)big signs here in PA, too. Not so much in 2020, but in 2016 and now in 2024 the gigantic signs are out in force. Weirdly, the Trump/Conspiracy Theory guy on my way home from work still has all his conspiracy theory crap all over his yard, but has nothing for Trump. This from a guy with an upside down American flag on a flagpole and a F*ck Biden flag hanging from his porch roof.
