Does it seem like the length of daylight is 10x shorter than it was yesterday?

(1,023 posts)When I was in middle school learning about these things, the equinoxes and solstices were on the 21st of their months. Why did it change to the 22nd?

(2,592 posts)Just kidding. I think it relates to the same principle that gives us leap years.

Back in the day (my day) they may have just acknowledged each equinox on the same day of the year to make things easy.

(3,833 posts)There have been a handful of years when the equinox occurred on the 24th.
I researched this question a few years ago. My understanding is that, since the time when the Gregorian Calendar was adopted (the year 1583), there has not been a September 21st fall equinox. My understanding is that in the years 2092 and 2096 the fall equinox will occur on September 21.

(1,393 posts)Spring and Autumn, within a three day span. It's why Easter has no set day, it was a holiday that was based on when the Spring solstice happened. Something about the first full moon after the solstice. Christians like to steal pagan holidays.

At least I can quit wondering about it now. You guys rock!
