It has been brought to my attention that DU member nevergiveup has unfortunately passed away quite suddenly after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
nevergiveup joined DU twenty years ago, in 2004, and while he was not the most prolific poster, it was reported to me that he considered DU to be his trusted safe space. I am told that he frequently and widely shared the content that you all bring to the site each day, and that the exposure to all the different stories was a joy to him.
He posted mostly in General Discussion, and his last post was on July 25, when he simply posted "Go Kamala!!!!" -- a sentiment shared by all of us.
My condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

(94,791 posts)I love my family even if I don't always like them. (Yes, I'm aware I'm not easy to like)
Losing a DU member is like losing a family member because DU is a family - and it is a family because there are all kinds of families and people can choose to be family. They don't have to be related. They share other bonds besides blood and marriage.
My sincere and heartfelt sorrow for the loss of nevergiveup.

Drops of Jupiter (by Train)
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return of her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey
Hey, hey, yeah
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, mmm
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's a room to grow, hey, yeah
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly, so he never did land
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and then you miss me
While you were looking for yourself?

I hope our ranks thin no further!
I can believe that he never DID give up. There are some battles where one just doesn't return victorious. It doesn't mean you didn't fight the good fight.

and they found a large mass on my pancreas. I am having a specific pancreas scan this Tuesday probably followed by a biopsy. My doctor was not very encouraging. I am still a little in shock. No one in my immediate family on either side has died from cancer other than my dad's older brother who died at the age of 97 from esophagus cancer. He did not smoke but was a welder all his life going back to WW 2 when he worked on Army tanks way before they had good welding masks.
