In western Suffolk County NY. Not a fancy gated community. A mix of fixed income, people with disabilities and section 8 subsidized housing. Along with Kamala, I was walking for John Avlon for congress and state assembly and senate races. I was quite heartened by the reception I received. A lot of older white men disgusted by trump. The only negative response I got was from and anti choice woman, but she wasn't rude.
Maybe we'll be ok.
Tomorrow morning, we'll vote and then back to doors tomorrow.
9 days as of tomorrow!
Let's do this!

(3,663 posts)I'm in Avlon's district in Suffolk but unable to do much walking because of back problems. And it's been frustrating seeing all Republican lawn signs around here. Next to Kamala, a Democratic House will be critical. What you're doing is so important!

I'll be back out tomorrow.
Lalota brags how he was the first House member to support the Slobfather. That alone should disqualify him.

(85,182 posts)I completed my third canvassing session this week. Lots of folks not home (or maybe just not answering their doorbell). But those who we did meet were friendly and receptive. And a couple of 'em had already voted, which was good to hear.

(18,875 posts)I did some sign waving today and it felt good to be doing something. Knocking on doors is much harder, so thank you!

(5,337 posts)People are much less likely to be nasty to your face. I'm a barely 5 foot tall 115 pound woman. I'm pretty non threatening and can talk to almost anyone.
Thanks for what you do. It all helps!

(37,570 posts)Born and raised there, and even after leaving, job realities brought me back. A lot of Republican voters there, but maybe not this time, at least not for president.
Good news. Not bad for a county whose Republican party had once been (1924-1926) actually Klan-dominated (a fact that I bring up to dispel RW Republican claims of the Klan being a purely Democratic Party creature).

Nazis on Long Island: The Story of Camp Siegfried
In 1936, the German-American Bund, a pro-Nazi group, was formed in the United States to advocate for policies beneficial to Germany. The Bund was very active throughout the latter half of the 1930s, organizing rallies and marches, including a rally at Madison Square Garden in 1939.

I always remind people that the suburbs grew out of white flight. Developments were strictly segregated with racial covenants and our park ways were designed to keep those people from the city away from our beaches.
It's a tough road to climb, but we have to keep fighting, cause when we fight, we win!
