She lost because the incumbent president had a 41% approval rating, undeserved in my opinion, but low nonetheless. She will end up with 49% of the vote when all the West Coast votes come in. She outran his approval ratings by 8 points, that's a lot... That's an empirical observation and not a normative one.

(28,835 posts)Biden's inexplicable approval ratings and the voters' belief that Trump was better on the economy were things that were always going to be tough to counter.
The message started to get through at the very end on the economy, but I think it was too late. I'm not sure how we get through to voters on issues like that.

(33,439 posts)what the hell...in my mind it beats latino males, and white males and females. Weve all read how Russia's cyber crimes are so far advanced in comparison to the United States.

(48 posts)I live it every day. And if anything, the threat we have from in the cyberspace from not just Russia, but others, is extremely understated and completely misunderstood.
I've said it for years - there's already a hot war going on every single day - and people don't even realize it.

(5,935 posts)By many measures, Biden has done a great job. Best economy in decades, higher salaries and cheaper drugs. Record employment. Democrats thought people would appreciate this. But a Massive lying candidate and compliant media lied to the American people. Immoral people changed the narrative

(622 posts)However those things didnt help. I thing the harris campaign ran a incomplete campaign. They had to know they were losing in all the battle ground states.

We are in sorry shape. And MSM and cable media are complicit as they normalized it didn't play it's long-standing role of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable to provide aid or support to those in need, while prompting those in positions of power or luxury to act in more ethical ways.

If instead of Harris it was a younger Biden that ran a similar race as she did then I think we may have still been able to win .
The Biden numbers which were due to inflation was what hurt the party as a whole.
No female or non white non straight non xtian man would get there support Trump did with that same type of behavior and background.

(108,590 posts)one heck of a lot of Trump voters were MOTIVATED to vote against her and for Trump--at least to some degree-- because of race and gender. Not all, certainly, but a lot. Whether that applies equally to independents, I would guess probably not. But they certainly found some justification for voting FOR Trump and while anecdotal, the interviews with first-time male college students in Nevada yesterday made it pretty damned clear they were motivated by the Joe Rogan/Bro endorsement of Trump.
The bottom line, NEVER underestimate the power of misogyny in this culture. And race, undoubtedly, likewise.

(6,951 posts)I think she lost because too many Americans are hell bent on retribution for Obama and for allowing gays to marry. All the rest is just extra.
Edit to add - we all all pick at it. The talking heads will pick at it. Chances are all of us are wrong. At the end of the day, people determined to hate are going to hate.

Every trip to the grocery store left people angry at us. Unfair or not, that is the way it is.
After all was said and done, it goes back to the old adage..."its the economy stupid"

The double standard reporting is the most glaring example.
Where are the details? VP Harris has no details? She needs to do more interviews? She needs to do this, or do that, blah, blah, blah
While giving a free pass to the demented sociopath who only cares for himself.
We live in a very sick country, whose populace cannot even distinguish between right and wrong.
I am so fortunate to live in California and hope we in California can escape the draconian measures that surely will be exerted on our fellow-Americans in red states, though I suspect the federal government under trump will try and interfere with our state's rights, and those of any blue state that didn't vote for that jackass.
After trump does his damage, I fully expect he won't finish his term because he is failing pretty badly, and thiel's' vance will take over the reigns of power.

(19,510 posts)The fact that Kamala did not do that was a smart strategy. She focused on her policy points, made it personal her story of being raised by a single mother to connect with others, and stated her positions.
The bar was set high for her and way low for tRump. But she achieved much in her quest for the White House. The American people saw that she was a woman, they just did not buy what she was selling and chose the snake oil con man instead.
Quiet Em
(1,704 posts)But Trump and Republicans did focus on her gender. Trump didn't hold back on that at all.

(11,965 posts)The United States profoundly hates women. And it really hates black women
We have not ratified the CEDAW treaty (UN Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination of Against Women). You know who else hasn't ratified that treaty? The paragons of women's rights like Somalia and Sudan.
Women are paid less than men across the board.
Family leave is not guaranteed.
Childcare is not accessible.
Women's healthcare is a fucking joke. We are routinely denigrated. We die in emergency rooms bleeding out of our vaginas because the government controls what doctors can do with our reproductive organs.
Need I go on?
