General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsEvery man on this planet owes his very life to a woman.
Every woman does too, of course.
That's what confuses me about men who show no respect for women or who abuse women in any way. How could they not respect women? Each of those men was in a woman's uterus for about nine months. Each of them was fed by a woman for many years, one way or another. Without a woman, no man would even exist.
Men! Respect women! You owe your life to them. Act like it!

A very different situation, isn't it?

(42 posts)I wholeheartedly agree men shouldnt hit women, but, conversely, the same goes for women.
The other day, I witnessed a man hold a door open for a lady at the convenience store and she scolded him saying, I can open my own door thank you.
The man was trying to be polite and she was rude for no reason at all, so it goes both ways.

(147,788 posts)As for your example, that is a right wing misogynistic meme.

(42 posts)What I witnessed with my own eyes didnt happen and its a rethug meme?
I would say women hitting men is less than the other way around, but I have certainly witnessed it several times. As a matter of fact, the only time Ive seen a man hit a woman personally, he was immediately beat by about three other men who witnessed it.

(851 posts)Back then city women typically wore a linen shift, stockings that tied, a corset, up to 7 petticoats, skirts with so much fabric they were wider than any other era. Kinda tough to even breathe with all that garbage on. Lots of women fainted because of a tight corset. So women became the fair sex or the weaker sex. They couldnt vote, have much of a say in their marriage, etc. I think some of our lovely men still see women as helpless.
Out here on the prairie women wore fewer garments and less fabric. She didnt ride side saddle; she drove a covered wagon; she could shoot, wield an axe, and hoe a vegetable garden. I may be prejudiced but I think these women are why Southern women matriarchs are so feared by men and women.
Then came the flappers - they said no to all of that and even cut their hair! 👍

(6 posts)First I want to thank you for trying to hold up women. Some of the responses to your post have perturbed me more than anything I've seen from the right wing today. Secondly, I have an idea on how to phrase your sentiment in more detail. Since, to my knowledge no man has ever died as a result of carrying a pregnancy or in the act of giving birth, nor been forced to carry a pregnancy against their will as even children are in red states at this time, a better way to phrase this is: Every human alive owes their life to a woman's Selflessness, sacrifice and courage and to a man's act of sperm donation. There are many ways to be a sperm donor, including by violence and non-consensual force. Today women can visit a sperm bank and receive sperm from a possibly now deceased donor. Was a man's sperm involved? Yeah. But the only way for a human to come into this world is through a woman's womb. And that involves nine months of Selflessness, sacrifice and courage. There is no equivalence here. Thank you for upholding women.
