I just got a FREE shipment from Penzey's

At least I didn't order anything and there's no invoice... It's a whole box of Resist spice packets. Here's the note that came with it (I'm copying from my phone so any typos are mine):

Two Possible Futures Ahead!
One where those who believe in the promise of America give up. One where they don't. We chose your home for this box because your backyard is where America's fate is to be determined. Please find a place to pop this open and share with people in need of a tasty seasoning to brighten their day.
Sprinkle RESIST! heavily on hummus or chopped avocado and it will be spicy. Sprinkle it on a burger, or wings, or vegetables before roasting and its heat fades with cooking leaving just wonderful tastiness. Use RESIST everywhere by itself or alongside your favorite seasonings to add a new spark. RESIST! is good.
Sorry to add more to your plate, but you know this matters. Thanks for being our customer.
Bill

There's like 27 packets.
This never happened to me before in my 76 years. I'm kinda touched. Penzey's is the real deal.
P.S. if anyone wants some, send me an address by DM. I don't know many people and I live in an apartment..
I also feel a little obligated now to get out of my funk and DO SOMETHING. It's not like I'll be stupendously successful enough to keep the T voters from their FO phase, but maybe I can help stave off the worst, or counteract some of it. Or just help some people.
PPS Wauwatosa Village is the bomb on baked potatoes and chicken.

A public outreach program with valuable gifts! I like it, it's good to know there are business owners who put their money where their mouth is, so to speak. That's an investment in outreach. I may not be a customer but I sure do appreciate that Bill does that.

So there this song, in there's one line that gets me every time, where the Lickettes say "Hi BIll!" and it's funny. AT the grocery store I frequent the head meat dept guy is named Bill. Somehow over the years I had told him about the song and from then on, when I see him and we greet each other I wave my hand really high and say, "HI BIll!" Just like in the song, it's our private little joke.

I kind of wish I could say "Hi!" to Bill Penzey.

This blend is perfect for a pulled pork.

Dry marinate pork shoulder (or another cut for braising. I like country ribs) in the fridge for about 2 - 3 hours. Then slow braise in the oven in beer. Low and slow on temperature. It makes a great pulled pork.

It's simple enough for me. Thanks.

The things you learn on DU.
ETA: I'm not a good cook, could you tell me at what temperature and for how long?

I would say 300 degrees for about 2 - 3 hours -- depending on the size of the meat. You will want it to fall apart. So it could take longer. 40 - 50 minutes per pound.
One trick is to pour the beer so it comes up the meat about 2/3 and then turn the meat over every 30 - 40 minutes.
Covering can be helpful, too, at least for the first 2 hours and then removing the cover to get some browning.

I tend to cook by eye, so I suggest looking up a well rated recipe or two online.

A few weeks ago Penzey's said they had hug blankets to send out to anyone who needs one. I entered my request for my husband who was waiting on a lung cancer diagnosis. We got it 3 days ago. What a nice surprise. He's going to use it during chemo treatments to stay warm. That's my plan anyway. Penzey's is the best. I've been using their products for over 10 years.

Sorry about your husband's diagnosis. My Mom died of lung cancer 30 years ago. Treatment has improved since then. Hope the chemo works.

I got a big box of Resist spice packets a couple of days ago. That stuff is hot! I’ve been trying to figure out who to give some to, but it’s hard if you don’t know their political affiliation.

In my coat pocket.

I give them to people while I'm out walking.
I give them to people while I'm out doing errands.

I haven't made a "political affiliation test" yet,

As Bill says - to anyone who might like something to spice up their day.

It was the grownup version of the candy store.
It closed during the shutdown. I’m OK with mail order.
