In the dark years ahead, Liberal/Progressive causes will take more of a battering than this election has already inflicted. Only an unforeseen turn of events can change that. Even so if the administration does manage to shutter some sites, there's the hope that legal battles over the first amendment might get them turned on again.

I love Jimmy, Stephan, Seth and The View.

But I’m scared they will be taken off TV soon because the 🍊💩🤡 has thin skin.

It depends on how useful the GOP regards tracking user data for these sites, but we browse the web because the government allows and enables it.

It's not a thorough clean-out, but you could wax at least 90% of traffic to selected sites and drive whole chunks of the web into a "dark mode" of operation. Not saying it's the only way, but if I were the federal government trying to censor the internet, it's where I'd start. Lots of web users don't know IANA and ICANN exist, or what they do, but they are a powerful force in TCP/IP networks and susceptible to federal oversight. Declare sites that publish information displeasing to Trump et al illegal, require they be blacklisted and removed from the directories, deny re-ups on registration renewals.

There are domain registrars and hosting providers all over the world that are not subjected to US government interference.

Of course there can be foreign sources, do you think the average web user wants to deal with configuring their systems to use them, or setting up VPNs to operate with foreign IPs? Don't assume the feds can't regulate sites so they'd have to operate from the "dark web" (which certainly exists but most would rather avoid). Like I said, not an absolute shutoff, but a severe throttling.

And each TLD (top level domain, .com, .net. .uk, etc) all have their own authoritative nameservers that are owned and operated by whatever authority is responsible for the TLD.

You either think -

1) Trump doesn't have the means to do it
2) Trump's moral code won't allow it (snort)
3) We're not significant enough for him to worry about

I'll buy 3 but not 1 or 2.
