Who watches Rachel any more? Who watched her tonight? I ask because some DUers keep asking...

…or rather demanding to know, are the Democrats doing because in the questioners’ opinion the Democrats are doing zilch nada nothing.

So I ask, in the kindest way possible — please watch Rachel Maddow. She answers your questions — in detail. Including things like pushback, blowback — and trumpGOP’s backpedaling. She namechecks Indivisible.

Thank you for your attention.

It varies according to which show you are watching, but I have often seen criticism of Democrats when warranted. For instance, some MSNBC hosts criticized Biden during the recent struggles, some have criticized some of Bernie's past stances, many have criticized Fetterman's about-face recently, and many criticized the Pelosi-driven decision regarding AOC. Post-election, many debates ensued about what went wrong, where the party failed us, and so on. There are other instances where they disagreed when warranted. These are just off the top of my head. And no, I don't have time to go search out articles or videos to support my statements. I saw it. I heard it. I note that you provided no support for your blanket condemnation either. We are even. Done.

Enough said on that.

They are all MUCH more likely to criticize Republican fascists, though, and they do not equate them to Democrats or bring them on their shows to normalize them. THAT is far more important to me than whether or not they criticize Democrats.

Wed Jan 29, 2025, 09:33 PM
Jan 2025

it would have to be strong enough to defeat the other two parties combined. And that's not going to happen any time soon.

It might help us if we encourage Democrats to look harder at the Republican Party and observe that all this reactionary crap they are pushing, they are doing so because they are unable to see beyond their "principles." Of course those principles are flawed - and are not compatible with actual Christian values as set out by Jesus. But they will not compromise an inch. Let's not become likr them.

I absolutely agree we need a unified party. But to be unified we need to recognize that everyone has principles - and the way th progress is through compromise Of course we have to be careful what we compromise on and how we do ir. But inflexibility never got anyone anything except revolution.

My DVR is set to record all new Rachel Maddow episodes BUT ever since the election, I've just been deleting them without watching em. Simply haven't gotten over the disappointment in the democratic party's performance, not only in the election but their total disappearing act since. I am not ready to get over it until I see some fire and so far there is nothing on the horizon other than the Convicted Felon's unhindered & unopposed daily damage to our democracy.

. . . but then what?

In my rural Virginia county, we Democrats have a group who write letters to local and regional papers, most of which are published.

We met this afternoon and decided that all or most of us will watch Rachel and Lawrence, take notes, and use their material for letters to editors in which we point out how Trump is screwing over his voters.

Information -- such at that coming from Rachel -- is great but we must use it for something other than conversation among ourselves.

49. Yarvin serves exactly one purpose..to spread the idea that this country would be better served by a dictatorship
Wed Jan 29, 2025, 01:54 AM
Jan 2025

Here is a good article on this asshole

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/opinion/trump-vance-yarvin-monarchy.html?unlocked_article_code=1.rk4.Lq6V.pG7tbHj7P2lp&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

The truth is that Yarvin is a stock character. Theophrastus identified his type as “the flatterer,” the person “who will say as he walks with another, ‘Do you observe how people are looking at you? This happens to no man in Athens but you.’” Plutarch warned his readers of those who are “merely reflecting the image of other people’s emotions and manners and feelings,” of those who besiege “with praise the ears of those who are fond of praise.” From Shakespeare, we have Regan; from J.R.R. Tolkien, Gríma.

There’s no there there — only an obsequious commitment to the interests of the powerful. Yarvin serves exactly one purpose, and that is to spread the idea that this country would be better served by a dictatorship of capital, spearheaded by tech elites and their allies in government.

Vance is a protégé of Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist and occasional ally of President Trump. Sitting close to the action at Trump’s inauguration on Monday were the members of his cabinet. Just in front of them, in full view of the cameras, were Mark Zuckerberg, Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai and Elon Musk, the richest man in the world.

Yarvin is a charlatan, but he has done his job. His patrons are in power.

We’re in this fight for FOUR YEARS.

Keep your reps’ numbers and emails handy and follow orgs like indivisible who provide simple instructions and talking points.

Who the hell would we be if we let them destroy and shut down OUR government without a fight? Because that’s damn sure what they’re trying to do. And Rachel talked about that too, playing video from that Yarvin asshole to point it out. Her two main points tonight:

THEY ARE TRYING TO PERMANENTLY SHUT DOWN OUR GOVERNMENT. IT’S WHAT PROJECT 2025 IS ABOUT.
MASSIVE BLOWBACK FROM AMERICANS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES *WORKED* - AT LEAST FOR NOW.

FLOOD THE ZONE. Don’t make it easy for them to destroy our lives, our government and our economy. Because that is what they are attempting to do.

It seemed to me like we began to find our footing in January. I've stopped complaining about this because some kind of resistance IS taking shape. Like most things we do, it is slightly nebulous but it is coming together--and that is the best way: organic formation rather than half-hearted performative gesture that our leaders undertake only because we've screamed at them to do.

MAGA has now reversed or backed off of some of their key goals. I find this fact alone hopeful and inspiring.

112. MaddowBlog-With chaotic freeze gambit, the Trump White House shows its incompetence (again)
Wed Jan 29, 2025, 03:04 PM
Jan 2025

On the one hand, Team Trump is launching legally dubious power grabs and wreaking havoc. On the other hand, these guys have no idea what they’re doing.
https://bsky.app/profile/stevebenen.com/post/3lgv4ypo7t22y

Remember eight years ago, when Trump launched an ugly and poorly thought-out Muslim ban, sparking outrage, bureaucratic chaos, family hardships, and messy legal fights?

Eight years to the day later, he did it again with an ugly and poorly thought-out spending freeze.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/chaotic-freeze-gambit-trump-white-house-shows-incompetence-rcna189776

Exactly eight years to the day later, Trump’s budget office ordered a freeze to federal grants, loans and related assistance — money that Congress has already appropriated — effectively trying to transfer the power of the purse away from lawmakers. A massive national freak-out soon followed, with widespread confusion and chaos, even among the administration’s allies, about how to implement the White House’s policy.

With just minutes remaining before the freeze was scheduled to take effect, U.S. District Court Judge Loren AliKhan agreed to halt the process. NBC News reported:

A federal district judge on Tuesday granted an administrative stay in a case challenging the Trump administration’s planned freeze of federal aid, pausing the plan for a week and setting a hearing for further arguments Monday morning. The order applies only to the pause of disbursements in open grants, Judge Loren AliKhan said. And it doesn’t get into the legality of the freeze; instead, it gives her time to hear more fleshed-out arguments from a coalition of nonprofit groups about why she should issue a temporary restraining order that could block the freeze for an additional two weeks.

......It began with a terribly written memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which The New York Times’ Jamelle Bouie accurately described as “delusional.” White House officials spent much of the day insisting that it was perfectly clear, and news organizations were to blame for any confusion, but many of those same White House officials struggled badly to answer specific questions about the details of the policy — most notably related to the impact on Medicaid beneficiaries. (“I’ll check back on that,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at her first briefing.).....

In case that weren’t quite enough, the White House also spent much of the day defending the freeze by referencing the “Green New Deal,” which is a broad progressive agenda that, in reality, never actually passed — and therefore can’t be defunded.

The resulting image was unsettling. On the one hand, the president, his political operation and his policy team are engaged in ugly and legally dubious power grabs, wreaking havoc as part of a radical scheme to transform the American system.

On the other hand, these guys still don’t know what they’re doing. As The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank summarized in his latest column, “In just eight days on the job, Trump has taken a wrecking ball to the federal government, and he and his aides apparently couldn’t be bothered to give any thought to the damage and chaos that would ensue.”

TFG is a very stupid person. His staff is just as incompetent as the idiots who tried to do a Muslim ban 8 years ago

I can listen to a show that would take an hour to watch in 20 minutes at night as I do the dishes and brush my teeth, making efficient use of my time, paying no cable or subscription fees (other than my cell phone and internet services which I’m paying for anyway) and I get to stay informed. Everyone here seems to talk about cable and streaming and YouTube. Does no one do what I do?? I almost never need to see the video and I can take in the info almost all the time at 2x speed. If I need to I can back up and listen to a bit at 1x or 1.5x. Just a suggestion for others to consider.

I think she has a RESPONSIBILITY to do that. For at least as long as trump stays in power. A hundred days isn’t enough!
