(351 posts)At least the German people had no idea where it would all lead; but we do! We know this playbook. I ask myself many times each day, "At what point should/could we have stopped this?" Personally, I felt that once Trump lost the election in 2020, we should have fast tracked prosecution of Trump and his entire administration - especially Stephen Miller for crimes against humanity. I know that (probably) wiser heads than mine feared a civil war had we done so; however, I'm uncertain that we have avoided that outcome. I do believe in the decent people in the United States. It's very likely that much of the truths we have held to be self evident will be burned to the ground; yet, I can envision building a new United States that will give substance to the aspirations of our founding fathers. For now, we can only mourn but this won't last forever. No such ugly, corrupt, and morally bankrupt regime has ever hung onto power. We need to be patient, rational, forward thinking, and we need to expend our energy toward a vision of what we can and will become.

(351 posts)If Hitler had kept his "solutions" within the confines of Germany, do you think the allied forces would have intervened? In other words, do you think England, France, Canada, the U.S., Australia, and (the most beautiful) New Zealand, among other nations would have gone to war against Germany had Hitler not embarked on invasion? My own opinion is that most, if not all, of the allies would have deemed the situation to be "None of our business." I agree that the U.S. will have to right its ship of state without international assistance. We've made this mess (not we the people who never voted for this clown or his brown shirts) so we are going to have to clean it up (not we the people who embrace the clown. MAGA have never been house trained so they won't believe there is any mess to be cleaned.) Glum as I feel, I do believe we can do it; but then sacrifice may be painful.

but Germany was destroyed economically post-World War I, with any recovery hampered by war reparations; while America, at the time it made the choice to go fascist, had an economy characterized as the envy of the world.

Their playbook is using every last thing Hitler did, but trying to not repeat all his mistakes that denied him a win.......
