I was thinking about 2016. Wouldn't it be nice if our VP was able to run in the 2016 election? Biden would be a few days shy of 74 after the 2016 elections. If you think Biden should be replaced, who do you think should take his place?

I don't think the Democratic candidate has to be the VP. There's nothing that says that a VP has such a greater chance of winning these days.

We can worry about the next cycle next cycle, lets win this one first.

(24,331 posts)Aside from all the other reasons, the advantage that a sitting VP holds is VASTLY exaggerated. How many VPs have gone on become President after 8 years of their predecessor? In the last 50 years, just one: George Herbert Walker Bush, who had the advantage of running against someone who should not have been within a mile of Presidential politics and subsequently self-destructed.

(9,612 posts)In history? Only four: Adams, Van Buren, Nixon, and Poppy. You might count Jefferson but the President he served under only served one term. Plus Nixon had an 8 year gap.

(14,626 posts)I can't see Biden running our country. Sorry just can't.
It would be better if we had a Dem VP in place who could take the White House in 2016.
Biden will never be president. Mark me words.

(18,274 posts)Biden has been a loyal VP, and Obama is beginning to look like a bamboo chute in the wind on issues that he is passionate about. It would be an awful decision to dump Biden.

(9,612 posts)Biden is the best mind out there for foreign policy, and would be the best qualified person to step in if the worst should happen. For those two reasons he needs to stay.

(20,176 posts)Based on today's scuttlebutt and the Panetta reveal, we're much-closer to having a shooting war with Iran than we were a few days ago.
If such a war occurs it'll still be ongoing during the campaign and election...that Biden FP experience will be essential to a election win.

I know he's an asset, because he has BIG party apparatus behind him, just he doesn't do anything for me and mine on OUR issues. He's nice, but, other than that, he's nothing.

(277 posts)and I'm tired of folks suggesting Obama dump Biden. What president has done that in recent years, its pathetic and desperate. Biden, has disappointed me as well, because he isn't loud enough, he needs to attack the racist rethugs and their blatant disrespect for President Obama. Obama, has had to carry his ticket all by himself, Gore helped Clinton a lot more than Biden has helped Obama. With that said, he needs to stay put, it just doesn't look good to switch vps!!

(13,390 posts)Obama is his boss, and he's obligated to do what he can to ensure success of the current admin. He serves at the pleasure of the president and Obama knows better than to turn Joe loose at every turn. Part of Joe's appeal is that he has something original to say when he shows up.
I think he's great and has served us well. When he comes out swinging, I am always cheering him on.

(25,201 posts)I also recognize the mistake the Repigs made by not having an heir apparent to Dubya. We look like we're about to go down the same trail.
Reagan figured out quickly how to not make that mistake. Poppy couldn't hold the electorate, but it's been a very long time since we've seen a multi-term President followed by a President from our party. You have to go back to Harry Truman for that, and he had the advantage of being able to serve most all of FDR's 4th term, plus massive disarray in the Rethug party in 1948.

(533 posts)I think they should switch - let Biden run the show in 2012, and Obama can be his VP. In 2016, Biden can retire, and Obama can run for another 4 years, with Warren as his VP. In 2020, Warren can run for Pres, and by that time there will be some other Dem ready to step up to the plate.
Since we're just bullshittin'...
