Related: About this forumTuesday is election day! Here's what DU members need to know.
This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the Announcements group).
As you know, election day is coming on Tuesday. We look forward to spending the day with all our DU friends as we take our first step toward taking our country back from Trump and his enablers. Here are a few things you need to know.
GET OUT AND VOTE!
I'm pretty sure it goes without saying here on DU that everyone needs to get out and vote! Then you can let your friends on DU know that you fulfilled your civic duty by displaying the "I voted" avatar image on all of your posts. Click on the "My Profile" link at the top of any page, then look for "Avatar Image" and click "Edit." The "I voted" image is under the "Slogans" subcategory:
DON'T GET BLOCKED OUT!
The DU administrators are doing everything we can to keep DU online and working properly, but there is still a chance that the site may not be available to everyone due to heavy traffic or worse. In the event of heavy traffic, we may need to block out some visitors so that others can still access the site. If that happens, preference will be given to visitors who have active DU accounts, with top priority given to Star Members.
-- If you are not a DU member, you can register for a DU account here.
-- If you are not a DU subscriber, you can purchase a Star Membership here.
WHERE TO GET INFORMATION IF YOU CAN'T ACCESS DU
Two years ago, on election day 2016, Democratic Underground was the victim of a crippling hack that forced us to take the site offline for weeks. Since then we have implemented numerous upgrades to improve the security of our site. But despite our best efforts it is still possible that we could be the victim of another attack. The risk is even greater around election time.
If the website becomes unavailable for any reason, we will post information on Twitter and Facebook to keep you informed. If you are a member of Twitter or Facebook, please consider following us on those platforms. Or you can bookmark the pages below just in case you need them later:

Thank you for being a DU member. Go Dems!

(2,067 posts)None of us saw the election results playing out the way they did, and Im not sure most of us (myself included) could have handled it. From a reputational standpoint, the site being unavailable was probably a best case scenario.

(688 posts)It was good to have the community. People may have been distraught but it was also a source of comfort and shared grieving. It was a huge blow that the site was inaccessible on election day 2016. It made a terrible situation worse.

(2,067 posts)People invested their personal happiness in Secreatary Clinton becoming President. For many of us, myself included, November 2016 was full meltdown mode.

(688 posts)This was at the height of the Iraq war. People have short memories. The Bush years were very demoralizing and the thought of four more years were unfathomable. It was a difficult night.

On edit: And I am planning to vote bright and early on Tuesday morning and provide rides to the polls to anyone who needs one.

(16,331 posts)Checked and it was received. I'm in Michigan and we no longer have straight ticket voting but I just filled in every D circle on the ballot! Voted Yes on all three of our proposals, one of which is to allow everyone to vote by mail, no excuses needed. Voted Yes on legalizing marijuana, voted Yes on no more gerrymandering.
I will be napping on Tuesday afternoon because I'm sure I'll be up all night biting my non-existent fingernails.

(15,109 posts)conversations with friends, colleagues and family. Amazing how many people seek me out and ask me how I voted on various ballot initiatives, and for which candidates (straight blue, needless to say).
I have also volunteered for the Dem candidate for my state House district, and have donated to numerous campaigns.

(22,488 posts). . .an "I Voted" avatar next to my name immediately on Tuesday.
I'm an Election Inspector in NY and I'll be on "the other side of the table" from 5:30 am (opening up shop for 6 am poll opening) to 9:30 pm for locking up shop after the 9 pm poll closing.
Then it's on to an election night party.
That means I'll be essentially incommunicado all day Tuesday and won't be posting here.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Oh, wait a moment. I could put the avatar on Monday night, even though I won't be voting until next day. You see, I have been assigned to the very school gymnasium where my polling place is. So during a lull, I'll take a break and cast my vote then. No problem.
And if I had been assigned elsewhere, I would have ALREADY voted. By absentee ballot.
