Harris accepts CNN debate invitation for October 23, again challenging Trump to another showdown

CNN — Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday accepted an invitation from CNN to debate former President Donald Trump on October 23, challenging her rival to another engagement on a public stage in the final weeks of the campaign. “Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”

Harris tweeted Saturday that she “will gladly accept a second presidential debate” and that she hopes Trump “will join” her on October 23. The debate would mirror the first 2024 presidential debate in June between Trump and President Joe Biden, taking place at CNN’s studios in Atlanta, according to the network.

Trump suggested last week that he might be open to participating in a third presidential debate following his September 10 face-off with Harris hosted by ABC in Philadelphia. “Maybe if I got in the right mood,” he told reporters during a stop in California, after previously posting on Truth Social, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung referred CNN to that Truth Social post when asked Saturday whether the former president would accept the debate invitation.

Harris’ campaign last week dismissed Trump’s announcement that there would not be another debate, with one senior adviser saying the former president “changes his position every day.” The vice president, meanwhile, immediately called for another debate, saying, “I believe we owe it to the voters.”

CNN's debate between Trump and Biden on June 27 proved a consequential showdown that upended the course of the campaign. After a particularly poor performance at that Atlanta debate, Biden eventually bowed out of the race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.

This puts Trump on the spot, because he probably would want to add a whole bunch of conditions, so when he does so, she can say that his campaign is the one coming up with excuses for refusing to debate.

Consume massive real estate in his head and will cause him to slip up more every day. By the time he gets to the debate night, he's going to take up where he left off and it's not going to be pretty. They might have to wheel him out of there on a gurney.

She' now planted a worm in his brain that will chafe at him night and day. He will continue to decline on a daily basis and will be such a mess by then, whether he actually attends or not, he won't be able to function in any manner that will be acceptable.

She slaughters him even worse, he pretends to win again, screams “UNFAIR” like a toddler, it’s so predictable. Let her do it and don’t worry about it. It’s amazing we have her here tearing him apart.

She has been a VP for the past 3 years.

Women shouldn't have to continually be subject to the idiotic "narrative" that they have something to "prove".

She was a D.A. of a big city for 8 years, the Attorney General of the most populous state for 6, and a U.S. Senator for 4.

The media needs to stop sane-washing a convicted criminal who should not be allowed to go anywhere near the White House and they should demand that he either string together a coherent sentence or drop out of the race.

Here's my tinfoil take on it.
They knew that Kamala would have to say she accepts another one. But IMO her campaign does not want anything to upset the apple cart that close to the election. And would greatly prefer if she can just coast to victory at that point.

No, its the "tired old playbook" of CNN and the corporate news industry. Desperate for a horse race as they see Kamala surge towards a landslide.

If I'm right they will bend over backwards to entice Trump to come back. Promises of zero fact checking for one. And whatever format he wants.

No need for

They are out for ratings and figure it would be like a "Battle of the Sexes: Part Deux" rematch.

I expect his staff will still refuse because he has so many other distractive "circumstances" to get the attention that he needs besides another debate. They were able to make sure to keep the foaming-at-the-mouth Nazi-hugging lunatic of NC away from him today during his NC rally and they will probably try to keep him far away from CNN (he originally wanted it to be on Fox anyway).

We'll probably know more after the VP debate.

If his campaign could load the orange Mussolini up with adderall and he somehow doesn't drool all over himself on stage, his handlers will claim he won. I personally believe 99% of the votes are locked in at this point but I don't want to take the chance that he will somehow not look like a deranged idiot and gain a few votes.
