Schiff introduces bill that would stop presidents from dismissing prosecution against themselves

Source: The Hill

California Rep. Adam Schiff (D) introduced a bill on Friday that would prevent sitting presidents from dismissing criminal prosecution against themselves, including through coercion of an attorney general or anyone acting on the president’s behalf.

The Investigative Integrity Protection Act seeks to require a three-judge court hearing before any charges against a president are dropped, according to a release. The legislation would only allow the court to grant a dismissal after considering whether the attorney general was appointed with the intent of dismissing any criminal prosecution against the president.

A Department of Justice inspector general would also be inquired to investigate any inquiries and immediately report findings to Congress under the proposed bill.

“Several years ago, we witnessed alarming attempts by a sitting president to obstruct justice and evade accountability. My bill would prevent a president from interfering in an investigation into, or prosecution of, their own misconduct,” Shiff shared in a statement. “This is a necessary step to ensure that our justice system remains independent and that no individual can place themself beyond its reach.”

It relies on judicial integrity. Like all statutes, it's purpose is to promote a peaceful, law-abiding society. We have evidence that people cannot be relied on for good judgement, even when it's extremely important. The criminal element has infiltrated at all levels. We're at the Robespierre v Danton stage. Next up, imperial executive.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Rep Chip Roy (R-TX) are co-sponsoring legislation to "reform" the U.S. civil service system, by granting supervisors the authority to terminate employees at will. H.R. 3115 / S. 1496 specifically states that any federal government employee can be terminated not only for cause, but for no cause at all. If enacted, it could be a lead-in to removing tens of thousands of non-political civil servants in order to replace them with MAGA lackeys. It is considered DOA at the moment, but a Trump victory coupled with GOP control of both houses of Congress would likely push the bill forward.

It is a "conservative" fantasy laundry list which would make John Birch blush(or worse, if he had a functioning circulatory system).
Merely printing it is a crime against humanity.

which is RW code for democracy, accountability, separation of powers, and an independent judiciary, all held in contempt by MAGA. The right-wing SCOTUS is certainly on board, given the recent presidential immunity ruling. The handwriting is certainly on the wall: Fire civil servants for doing the jobs they were hired to do and replace them with political ideologues, while transforming the presidency into a virtual king who rules by decree, enjoying absolute impunity for any wrongful deeds committed. Under this system, the level of corruption, not to mention sanctioned persecution of perceived political adversaries, would be breathtaking.
