A Minnesota man seen tossing a police barricade over a wall during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol will himself have to spend half a year behind bars.
Paul Orta Jr., 34, of Blue Earth a city near the southern border of the state, some 120 miles away from Minneapolis had traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend Donald Trumps so-called Stop the Steal rally, planned for Jan. 6. But he landed on law enforcements radar even before that: prosecutors say that Orta was one of four people on a privately-owned school bus that had been flagged to Maryland police the day before the rally.
The driver and owner of the bus were eventually arrested after firearms and ammunition were found on the bus, but Orta was searched and released by police twice first by officers in Maryland on Jan. 5, and later that day in downtown Washington, D.C., by Capitol police.
It is unclear if Orta attended Trumps rally during which the then-president urged thousands of his supporters to fight like hell against the certification of Joe Bidens 2020 electoral win on Jan. 6, but by around 1 p.m. that day, he had joined a crowd of rioters that had begun to overwhelm police at the Peace Circle monument.

(1,338 posts)This case was not presided over by either Judge Howell or Chutkan and so this miscreant received half what the prosecutors sought. Too bad. Either way, this young man threw his life away. The internet is forever and technically so is his federal conviction. He'll never be gainfully employed in the US again unless another MAGAt gives him a job when he gets out.
And thanks for posting, BRDS.

(8,823 posts)6 months is a little shorter than I would have sentenced him, but I dont get to hand out the sentences. I hope his 6 months is miserable, long and scary. I hope he lives each day in fear. I hope the punitive part of his sentence is just that. He earned it and now owns it. Fuck Him

(4,332 posts)They group together on the outside in faux militias, what I like to call "clubs" like Proud Boys, etc. They should all be dealt with the same way police and jail guards deal with all gangs. No special treatment, other than mental health treatment.

(142,360 posts)Those who have been incarcerated awaiting trial and/or final sentencing to a federal prison, have apparently been put in a certain "wing" of the D.C. jail. I expect they are talking about the "D.C. Central Detention Facility" which is near the U.S. Capitol building.

"...this is the group trump expressed his support of."
"These are the people republicans (Who run for office as we speak) said were 'tourists' '".
I think people need to have their noses rubbed in it if the consider voting for trump.
