Ethel Kennedy hospitalized after suffering stroke, family says

Ethel Kennedy, a human rights advocate and the widow of former United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, is recovering after suffering a stroke last week, her grandson said in a statement on Tuesday. Ethel, 96, is the sister-in-law of former President John F. Kennedy.

"Unfortunately on Thursday morning she suffered a stroke in her sleep," her grandson Former Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Massachusetts, said on X. "She was brought to an area hospital where she is now receiving treatment."

"She is comfortable, she is getting the best care possible, and she is surrounded by family," Kennedy said of his grandmother. "She is, as you may know, a strong woman who has led a remarkably fulfilling life. We are here looking after her."

The Kennedy family matriarch is mother to 11 children, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Neither do you. You don't know if she even follows politics at this point. But there is no evidence a stroke is caused by politics to a 96 year old. I doubt she is on a political discussion board.

11. One thing I've learned from my adult kids...

…they’re gonna do what they’re gonna do, as whack as it may be. The family has joined ranks against Jr. ‘Nuff said.

Ethel Kennedy has lived a life that likely would have broken most other people. All we should do is wish her a speedy recovery, or, if that is unlikely, peace.

Ironically, I was thinking about her the other day, amazed at her resilience. I’ve always admired her.

I knew they had a lot of children, but didn't realize it was 11! My Abuela (Grandmother) had 12 children. My mom was the 11th. Not all survived into adulthood but still. That's a lot of children. But big families mean lots and lots of support so that is definitely a good thing!

had 8. They were a farm family too. She had 21 grandchildren. Two of the grandchildren passed. One died of leukemia when he was 3, the year before I was born. My cousin Bill died in 2006 of colon cancer he was only 40.
