'He's Not Well': Trump's Bizarre Off-Topic Ramble Raises Alarm Over 'Mental Capacity'
Source: Huff Post
Oct 11, 2024, 04:59 AM EDT | Updated an hour ago
Donald Trumps rambling speech at the Detroit Economic Club on Thursday at times veered so far off-topic that critics raised new questions about his focus and mental capacity.
Trump trashed Detroit while speaking in Detroit, attempted to define the word grocery, and got defensive about his crowd size as he spoke for three hours.
During one 90-second stretch, he jumped from manufacturing to Elon Musks SpaceX rockets, to President Joe Bidens 2020 campaign amid COVID restrictions, to election conspiracy theories, and then to how the United States has been abused by other countries.
Its so simple, Trump said of his proposals to use the threat of tariffs to increase manufacturing in the United States. This isnt like Elon, with his rocket ships that land within 12 inches on the moon where they want it to land or he gets the engines back, he said. That was the first, I really, I said who the hell did that. I saw engines about three, four years ago. These things were coming, cylinders, no wings, no nothing, and theyre coming down very slowly, landing on a raft in the middle of the ocean someplace with a circle. Boom! The word circle set Trump in a new direction.

Evidently, none of then ever studied history or the original Articles of Confederation that had to be abandoned for a new Constitution because none of the 13 states would agree on anything and the federal government was too weak to lead.

(6,018 posts)he loads abbreviated "hot buttons" into his speaking style because he knows that while the sentences make no sense from a typical style of construction or argument they do constantly push the hot buttons in rapid order of his cult members. So even if they come away not being able to intelligently talk about anything he said they do come away highly agitated and if they have one or two specific things they especially have grievance about then the rapid fire effect of agitation has a carryover effect to keep the intensity of anger high.
I'm now seeing in Wisconsin a ton of ads for him talking about how Kamala supports using tax money to send "illegals" to college and job training and she wants to give tax money for transgender prisoners to have sex changes. Of course they show "dog whistle" background pictures while the narrator spits his venom. They do a "Willie Horton" by showing a black man putting on mascara.

These days, reporting negatively on Republicans is framed as election tampering. So, Republicans continue to commit crimes and more openly express racist, misogynist, homophobic policies. Trump's speeches get more unhinged by the day. It's like conservatives are baiting the media into reporting on them by engaging in ever more dangerous and outrageous behavior, and then complaining about unfair - or even illegal - treatment of them by the MSM.
The media is in the tank for Trump. This 'selective' coverage could doom America.

(11,493 posts)If you want to call them that. The people who actually write the stories and articles are afraid to have to deal with Trump's crazy cult members.
Some of those members are a part of the GOP, assistants, handlers, private securitiy, campaign staff and PR guys. They are the ones who actively threaten, detain and push around the journalists both physically and figuratively.
Remember the incident at section 60 in Arlington National Cemetery? His campaign staff physically pushed around the staff of the cemetery. They do this all the time to journalists and anyone who may annoy them and Trump. Trump expects them to do that.
Would you write bad press on a guy who physically threatens you, sends his supporters to harass you and who your boss supports? It depends on how tough you are. A lot of people get tired of dealing with that.

The reporting of 45's mental decline, where something similar had been concocted about Biden and run 24/7 for 3 weeks straight, through a sadistic media assault designed to beat Biden into a pulp (and they are still doing it by making sure to insert some negative reference to Biden in almost every one of their articles), needs to happen with 45 as well.

Another take - https://www.thewrap.com/slurring-trump-rambles-aimlessly-about-biden-circles/
And of course, the local paper - https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/10/10/donald-trump-detroit-economic-club-michigan/75614308007/
So it's not just "Huff Post".
The M$M in general have used social media as their "information sources" for some time now. ALL of the M$M have a presence on it - i.e., their main reporters, and it gives them a quick window to what is happening at a particular moment without needing or hoping for some kind of "press conference" to provide the info.
If that social media app can display video, then it allows the M$M to "see what is going on" and write about it.
The governor of MI and Mayor of Detroit, used it to make their displeasure known -

(143,383 posts)and gather from over 2 dozen news sources (yes I have that many tabs just devoted to it plus will go to local or ancillary news sites as needed - e.g., I sub to a bunch of news/commentary magazines). Then I can distill it down (including any press releases, links to sites mentioned in the article or related to it, etc if available and relevant).
Most Municipal/County/State/Federal governmental entities ARE on "social media" because their communities demanded it. So they send out "the latest" that way because it's the fastest way to reach their constituents since the M$M will pick it up right away (if they are monitoring), and can or often will report on it.
"X" and the nightmare of Musk, has caused many of the governmental entities to start working on transitioning to something else but that will take time as it took time for them to develop the current SOPs for publication on their original "Twitter" accounts before it became"X". I noticed that most are moving to "Threads" since it ties into Instagram (that many have) and Facebook (all from same company - Meta - with apps that they also have policies in place for use).
The bottom line is that the M$M is "news gathering" using "social media" nowadays and then reporting on it. It saves them money from actually traveling to a location with a "tape recorder" ( ) and camera (or even an old fashioned notepad) to sort through later.

My concern is that his babbling may be interpreted by his Maga base as some sort of spiritual manifestation; a form of speaking in tongues.
But it looks to me that he's losing touch with reality, and is constructing an alternate reality because he can't face actual reality.
This is only going to get worse, as he slips deeper into this false construct. It's an extremely dangerous fantasy world he's created; one that could destroy anything he sees as a challenge, or threat to his ever-expanding bizarro unreality.
His babbling is his internal flow of thoughts; all jumbled up and projected out as his truth...one that only exists for him, but he wants to impose on us all.
Right now, he is the most dangerous person on the planet.
He cannot be allowed to be president.

(35,586 posts)Rather than quote his words, and mostly let the readers figure out what the heck he was talking about, they introduced his rant by explaining what they believe it was about.
And even that explanation fails to fully point out the irrationality. Trump commented that Biden couldn't fill the circles, so they had to have press fill them. Those circles were designed specifically for the press. They weren't some form of rally to which Biden was unable to draw 8 people, so the press had to fill in. They were designed for a strictly limited number of individuals to allow them to hold a safe press conference. So calling them press circles gives Trump credit for a leap he didn't make.

(9 posts)We can't have elections like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the rocket to Elon-ville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Maralago-ville, which is what they called Washington DC in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the rocket cost a NTF or a Tweet, and in those days, NTF's had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a Truth," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the covid.
