"Your body, MY choice": Emboldened far-right men taunt women on social media after Trump win

Far-right men are harassing women on social media with variations of a message that neo-Nazi livestreamer Nick Fuentes posted to his X account: "Your body. My choice. Forever." It's the inverse of the pro-choice slogan "my body, my choice," popularized in protest of Republican efforts to ban abortion and regulate women's healthcare choices.
The barrage took off after Donald Trump, who has bragged about his role in ending Roe v. Wade, was projected to win the election. Women reported a surge in misogynistic threats over the past week, with many of them concluding that sexist men, emboldened by Trump's victory, now feel empowered to go on the attack.
"'Your body. Our choice and 'We own your body now' comments are starting to pour in, Hannah Cor, women's liberation advocate said on TikTok. Men no longer have or be quiet in their hatred for women. They can hate us out loud and lose nothing."
TikTok influencer Camila Guadarrama revealed that she had to delete a video because several men commented that they couldn't wait until she got raped. Another user of the app posted a slideshow of some of the messages she received, which included users telling to "have fun losing your right" and "keep your legs closed." While Fuentes' original post received a wave of condemnation, it has also encouraged like-minded people to issue their own declarations on social media.

(3,156 posts)Amazon was selling shirts with this on them. I was going to post a link as evidence, but it appears Amazon has taken that vile shit down.
They took it off of there quick!
When I went back to check, there were dozens of tee-shirt selections with My Body, My Choice slogans, and variations of body-positive expressions instead. The marketing manager evidently told Bezos: Were going to lose half our customer base!

Hadnt thought about that verb and adverb in a long time. I remember when that name was verbified (aka; verbed, verbalized, denominalized). Guys everywhere would kinda cringe. 😂

(302 posts)Seriously. Just stop it already. If a male made a derogatory or threatening comment about women's sex organs, you would all have a shit fit. It's not appropriate when you do it either. In fact, it just fuels the whole goddamn problem. Now watch me get flamed or have my post removed...

Interesting that you did not comment on the actual threat by the fucking woman-hating men, but only on our response to it. Blaming us, not the men, wow.
Interesting screen name.

(29,798 posts)It feels like you're angry at me and I've no idea why -- My post, and the entire thread concerns abusive men, so unless you're in sympathy with them, I don't know why you'd be striking out at me.

(429 posts)I was not suggesting the Lorena Bobbit solution. I just meant that women should not be having sex with anyone who voted for Trump, and I stand by that.

(2,803 posts)Now the younger women will have to learn what older women knew and practiced from necessity: whenever possible, go places in groups, which is safer than going alone.
Learn to hang out with women friends and in women's groups.
We will need to band together to help each other and keep each other safe.
Save your money. Try and create a cushion to protect against the bad times that are coming. I wouldn't waste money on products aimed at making us more attractive to men.
Learn how to do as much as you can in making simple repairs to your home/apartment and your car. Learn to do a basic inspection of your motor and tires and learn how to check fluids and top them up. Keep your car well maintained so you don't end up stranded in risky situations.
Read books about strong women who respect themselves. Braiding Sweet Grass, by Robin Wall-Kimmerer, Daughters of Copper Woman, by Anne Cameron; more novels by Anne Cameron: Child of Her People; Escape to Beaulah, Kick the Can. Woodswoman by Ann La Bastille, etc.
Take a self defense class, preferably with other women in a class tailored to women's needs.
Above all: if you choose to have relationships with men, make sure that they are the kind of guy who will make the risks that you are taking are worth it. Because, your life is literally at stake here. Avoid incels and MAGATS at ALL costs. Don't go to bars or clubs where those type of bottom feeding scum are present.
Sadly, I think until we get our rights back, it is best to not have sex with men at all.
Great advice. I just copied your book recommendations to a word doc, thanks.
Women are going to need to be doubly careful about who they date and triply careful about who they sleep with.

(2,803 posts)I would add: learn about societies that respect women and treat them as valued leaders and elders.
Not trying to steal culture from American First Nations people, but listening to YouTube presentations by Oren Lyons, the faith keeper for the Haudenosaunee Nation, and Robin Wall-Kimmerer is really helpful. Their tribal traditions are matrilineal. Naming and inheritance are through the children's mother, not their father. Mr. Lyons also talks a lot about his tribe's important influences on the formation of the early government of the United States. In one of his videos, he states that what went wrong is that the founding fathers did not include the women in their government like the tribes did. "Where are your women?" , he says one of the early chiefs asked them.
One more resource: it's a website for Rhian Eisler. It has a number of books, as well as training programs or classes about how to create a partnership society. The express purpose is remove violence from family living situations and create partnerships grounded in equality and mutual respect.
As Anne Cameron wrote in Daughters of Copper Woman, " there is a better way to live. Some of us remember that way."
