Harris, Walz to address top donors next week

Vice President Harris and her vice presidential pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), will address her campaigns top donors over a call next week, a source familiar with the planning told The Hill.
The meeting comes weeks after Harris lost to President-elect Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Trump won all seven battleground states, secured the popular vote and made gains in some Democratic strongholds.
The 2024 Democratic ticket will speak with their National Finance Committee on Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. EST, the source said.
Your support and leadership made this campaign possible and the Vice President and Governor Walz are looking forward to having the opportunity to reconnect and express their appreciation for your partnership and support, Democratic National Committee (DNC) finance directors Michael Pratt and Colleen Coffey said in the invitations to donors that was reviewed by The Hills partner, NewsNation.

(3,465 posts)I don't know who the "big donors" are nor what causes they see as critical for their future support of Dems. At some point, if we Dems ever want to win a national election again and regain control of Congress, there may have to be a hard discussion that we will drop or downplay some issues near and dear to many donors. I am not saying the average voter is right if they are anti-LGBTQ, anti abortion, anti- immigration, etc. but we have to get into power to actually MAKE change and we clearly need to reprioritize issues we loudly support and lead with in future elections. Reality sucks but we are hard up against it.

There are some state party organizations that are on the ball and others that are almost non-existent and in tatters, with still others rife with sniping and internal "politics", that basically help to self-destruct any attempts at promoting the policies, and gaining new members/registrations.

(3,465 posts)Don't know how much it reflects on the rest of the effort but the local county Dem effort and the state Dems were constantly sending her conflicting info and directions on what to do, where to do it and when. She finally just told the state Dems to shut up and only listened to the local folks as they were the ones getting her cleared and certified with the county election board. It worked out fine after that but doesn't give one much confidence nor create an environment that folks want to volunteer into. Similar issue with donating and then getting besieged by beggarly calls, texts and emails for even more.

(142,360 posts)and we have an old "Democratic machine" head - Bob Brady (who used to be a Congressman here for years) who won't give way to new leadership. He was sniping just this past election, about how the Harris/Walz team "didn't go through him", and other nonsense.
Bottom line, the system that we have had here for the past 3/4 century with the Ward Leaders and whatnot, worked great in a PRE-INTERNET/PRE-SOCIAL MEDIA environment. It DOESN'T work well anymore without "modernization" because the "door-knocking" isn't going to work alone, especially when you have people fearful of opening their doors to strangers.
So there are lot of strategy/tactical updates that need to happen.
Obama's team did the first "break" of the old politicking by deploying some modernization of voter engagement, but since his first election, so much has continued to change, and we need to adapt.
I'm just glad that we have a majority (D) state Supreme Court, which helped us to un-gerrymander the Congressional Districts in 2018, finally balancing the delegation (and somewhat do the same for the legislative Districts).

(277 posts)I think a lot of the positive Democratic Party results from 2006-2012 are at least partly due to his work as DNC chairman and the 50-State Strategy.

(142,360 posts)and the DLCC (Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee) has finally started and stronger focus on state/county/local races, with funding to do that.
This needs to be a near-full time endeavor now. We have been making some good progress along those lines, even despite this last election.

(3,249 posts)That's almost $500k every hour, 24-hours per day, around the clock. And we couldn't win. Plus, we had the Swifties. And countless diplomats, attorneys general, former high ranking military, Nobel prize winning economists, others, by the hundreds writing and signing letters of warning. And the Orange Fuckbag still took all 7 battleground states.
Dems had better have a robust post-mortem and get to the real problem, whatever it is, without making assumptions or viewing opinions as actual cause.
Democrats are going to have a much harder time fundraising after this catastrophe.

(16,317 posts)Most Americans were just mad that prices rocketed up during the pandemic and were slow to fall (although they are now).
They took it out on Dem incumbents. No amount of campaign ads or messaging was going to change that. Prices at the store, especially food, are something everyone who shops sees every day. Daily cost of living was felt every day by most all Americans.

And yes, I'm still at the "denial" stage of the five stages of grief over the election, with a little pollyannish hope thrown in, by which I mean that I keep reminding myself of how quickly things can change. One day, we were all morose over Joe Biden's debate performance and then his stepping down as a candidate. Soon after, we were elated by the rise of Kamala Harris and the emergence of Tim Walz.
A miracle could happen. COULD happen, not will happen, I know. But it's all that's keeping me going.
