Why mail won't be delivered on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025

Source: WCMH (NBC - Columbus, Ohio)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — On Thursday, various services nationwide, including U.S. Postal Service mail delivery, will be paused in honor of the National Day of Mourning established for former President Jimmy Carter.

The USPS notes on its website that all post offices will be closed and regular mail will not be delivered. There will, however, be “limited package delivery service” on Jan. 9. Customers can expect services to return to normal starting Friday.

Thursday’s National Day of Mourning is meant to give people space to pay their respects to Carter, the longest-living American president. Per federal law, President Joe Biden previously declared the day a National Day of Mourning.

He’s worth it. And he was so quietly and humbly noble after his presidency ended - rolling up his sleeves with Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the homeless.

Perhaps the least-appreciated President of them all. And remember how Reagan gushed about the “mashed potato circuit” where he could rake in the big bucks as a guest-speaker-for-hire after he left the White House. Ironically, by the end of his second term, he didn’t have a lot of functioning gray matter remaining, between his ears, and he was quietly “made to disappear”.
