In remarks Thursday, President Donald Trump brought up the Jan. 29 D.C. plane crash tragedy — and made a jarring comparison.

During the National Prayer Breakfast at the U.S. Capitol, Trump mentioned the disaster — in which 67 people lost their lives after an American Airlines flight collided with a Black Hawk Army Helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport — and compared the odds of a helicopter and plane colliding to golf balls striking one another on a golf driving range.

“I guess the helicopter was high, and we will find out exactly what happened,” he said. “But the odds even if you had nothing, nobody, the odds of that happening are extremely small. You go to a driving range in golf and hit hundreds of balls, thousands of hours.”

He added, “I’ve never seen a ball hit another ball. ... Balls going up all over the place, you never see them hit. It was amazing that could happen. There were a lot of mistakes made. It should’ve never happened.”

He compared a crash, oh what a seismic shift,
To golf balls colliding—now that’s quite a gift!

“Imagine a helicopter and a plane in the sky,

You hit them and whack them, but do they collide?
Nope! They just soar, and they take off in pride!”

With a wink and a nod, he explained with a grin,
“I’ve never seen golf balls commit such a sin!
They fly left and right, up over the trees,
Yet crashing together? Ha! That’s a tease!”

He mused on the odds, like a wise golf sage,
“It's rare for those balls to turn into a rage.
Mistakes were made, surely, we can agree,
But let’s aim for the greens, not the D.C. debris!”

Then, with a chuckle, he thought of the site,
“Should I swim in the Potomac? Oh boy, that’s a fright!
I’ll make a plan soon, but where’d I begin?
It’s just water down there, I won’t take a dip in!”
