“BACK TO PLASTIC!”: Trump says he’ll reverse Biden initiative to phase out plastic straws
The executive order expected to come next week is an extension of a yearslong cultural war over paper and plastic straws.

President Donald Trump said Friday he would sign an executive order next week to undo a Biden-era plan to phase out plastic straws by 2027.

“BACK TO PLASTIC!” Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social. Paper straws, he continued, “don’t work.”

Yeah, they are pretty tricky to master.

Really, the picture of him is the main reason I'm posting. He's not looking any too well.

The funny part of that scene is Queeg ate more of the strawberries at dinner than anyone else in the wardroom and he put the ship into turmoil because he couldn’t be even more of a pig than he already was. And what the fuck was up with him sitting there slurping down an entire stick of butter while he was ordering his officers to strip-search the crew for this key?

“Why did you overthrow your commanding officer, Lieutenant Maryk?”
“Because he was crazier than a shithouse rat, he tried to get us all killed in a typhoon because he wouldn’t turn the goddamned ship into the wind and the stupid fuck ate all the food on board as between-meal snacks. Why couldn’t you have stuck this ignorant asshole in a job where he couldn’t hurt anyone?”
“Oh…never mind.”

I'd love to find those wax-paper straws, and I would certainly stock up if I could find them. Also carry-out foods used to be packaged in those wax-coated cartons. Use once for about 1/2 hour and throw away, makes perfect sense.

They are thick and heavy-duty straws, like cardboard, and they stand up great to the thickest (and most delicious 100% real milk) shakes.

There is NO reason to use one-time-use plastic straws.

I learned how to drink from a cup many decades ago, so I rarely use straws.

We also still used paper containers for takeout. I he ptgot some yesterday- one item came in a heavy paper box, the other two in some cute divided plastic trays that I'm sure I'll find a use for. My town and several neighboring ones contract with a recycling company to pick up the paper containers along with other compostable materials (bones and other kitchen scraps, lawn and garden debris, parts of trees that fall off during windstorms) and convert them to compost in giant digestors. The process isn't cheap, but because the company serves a lot of the Bay Area they come out OK in the end. Besides, we've long since run out of space locally for landfills.

consumer habits. More and more shoppers use reusable bags, cups, straws and more. I'd bet I'm not the only person who has decided to use as little plastic as possible.

Businesses are reacting to changes in consumption too. There are more packaging options to plastic.

Trump can order away, but he can't roll back the rides of change.

The problem is they get wet and collapse. All you have to do is use wax impregnated paper in their construction and they would work just fine, except for hot drinks.
I've tried a metal straw, and realized they can cause serious injury to mouth tissues.
Plastic straws have their place, but a well made paper straw is a better choice for the environment.
Trump, as usual, sticks his nose into everything and spreads his shit around everywhere he can. Plastics come from oil, so his drill baby drill mantra has a home here. The fact that they'll be around for a thousand years in a landfill is irrelevant to him.
Unfortunately, he's not going to stop doing this crap until he's dead.
