Breaking down chances for snow and ice on Saturday and Tuesday in D.C. area

Winter weather advisories have been posted for much of the region on Saturday, except for Southern Maryland and areas south of Prince William County in Virginia. Snow and/or sleet will probably develop between midmorning and midday before switching to freezing rain in the afternoon. The wintry mix could make getting around Saturday challenging, especially in the colder parts of the region and on untreated roads.
Tuesdays storm will probably bring heavier and longer-lasting precipitation, but exact amounts are in question, as are how much falls as snow vs. a wintry mix.
Accumulating snow is likely on Tuesday, but there are a number of issues that argue for being conservative in forecasting amounts, said Wes Junker, Capital Weather Gangs winter weather expert.
