The Defense Department has begun restricting access to books and learning materials covering subjects from immigration to psychology in its school system serving U.S. military families, citing the Trump administrations crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion programs, according to defense officials familiar with the effort and a memo obtained by The Washington Post.

(11,396 posts)Bill Gates did a 2 hour talk about his new book. MS employees only. DEI was well represented in the crowd. Every color in the human race. Dozens of ethnicities and languages. Dozens of folks with ADA needs: deaf, blind, mobility challenged. Yes, there are braille computers. Bill had an ASL interpreter. No mention of DEI in the talk. His book is about growing up before MS. Was refreshing to see all the diverse folk. Doubly nice was the fresh coat of snow on the Microsoft Campus. A break from MAGA and Trumplandia.

(5,184 posts)BUT I worked in the Curriculum Development department of a DoD war college. Therefore, I can't say as to whether this purge and restriction goes beyond k-12 schools; my sense and intuition tells me it will end up being across the board for ANY library or course offered to DoD employees and families. Unless you have worked in this field, you can't imagine how far-reaching this edict could be. It will continue to hollow out the military and civil service, and it will affect the way soldiers learn to fight wars.
Psyops has been a strong piece of courseware in the curriculum for decades. It may be called by different names, but it all boils down to the one thing... psyching out the enemy and winning battles/war. Like I said, it's been an integral part of courseware for decades. I also worry about the History courses that are developed. When I was working Blackboard, the History sections were both general American war history, as well as specifically targeted - like Viet Nam, Korea, etc. You can't learn to fight a war if you can't read and understand what the war was about in the first place; just my opinion there.
We also have had a successful guest speaker/leader program. Gen Honore and others have been speakers at the college. I can see this being either pared far back or scrapped altogether - especially if they put specific requirements on the speakers.
Wargaming is going to become a joke.
I loved my job and wasn't ready to retire. Disability took me out when I was refused working remotely (a year later, everyone was working remotely, and most still are). However, I've found the bitterness I've felt since then has lessened - probably because if I were still working up on Post, I'd be escorted out by the military police for shooting my mouth off or punching someone. That is, if women were even still allowed to work in the development department at all. The world of work has always been an old boy's club, but it used to be there was some parity if you could work within the civil service, including the DoD. The fact I was a veteran gave me preference points and I appreciated those. I feel threatened and worried about terror attacks, including the hacking and ransomware attacks we're going to see running off the scale. Welcome Putin as our new leader, or maybe it's Xi, or Un. It certainly won't be an American born leader, regardless of what the Constitution says. They've torn it up into tiny pieces and are throwing it in the trash, word by word; amendment by amendment, and they're laughing their butts off while they're doing it.
