Mark Zuckerberg says White House pressured Facebook over some Covid content during the pandemic
https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/zuckerberg-says-white-house-pressured-facebook-covid-19-content-pandem-rcna168377Also in the article:
Zuckerberg also said he would no longer donate money to widen election access for voters through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the company that runs the philanthropy for him and his wife, Priscilla Chan.
The couple previously donated $400 million to help local election offices prepare for voters in the 2020 presidential election, with funds used for protective equipment to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at polling sites, drive-thru voting locations and equipment to process mail ballots.
I know that some people believe this work benefited one party over the other despite analyses showing otherwise, he [Zuckerberg] said. My goal is to be neutral and not play a role one way or another or to even appear to be playing a role. So I dont plan on making a similar contribution this cycle.
So, Zuck's a total Trumper now. He's more afraid of the right than he is concerned about the spread of misinformation that could adversely affect society.
He's cancelling a philanthropic effort to promote free and fair elections in America because it causes "...some people to believe that [it] benefitted one party over the other despite analysis showing otherwise". In other words, the philanthropy hinders the ability of conservatives to cheat against liberals, therefore it benefits liberals, therefore it appears partisan, so he's cowering to the cons even though analysis shows it doesn't disproportionately help one side over the other so...he's quitting donating.
This is the definition of cowardice.
Neutrality is fine. Virulent and stubborn neutrality in the face of a threat that you have the power to mitigate, is called "asshole". Zuck's an asshole and a Trumper. But, I repeat myself.

OP
Kicking for your conclusions. Some of that content was appallingly irresponsible.

Nothing wrong with kicking off the Ivermectin-suckers.

(4,728 posts)2. Zuck gave T the EC in 2016
Facebook illegally provided private user data to Cambridge Anal Lyctica (oops, typo), which used said data to micro-target political ads in key districts, handing T the EC despite losing the pop vote by millions. FB and CA were charged and fined a slap on the wrist for subverting the election.
And we're worried about Putin interfering?
