Eight Texas independent voters share how they're sizing up the candidates heading into November

The extraordinary events have left many voters with whiplash. Republicans have been even more vocal with their support of Trump after the assassination attempt. Democrats have rallied around Harris who has breathed life back into her party’s hopes after Biden’s disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June.

....According to August polling, Trump leads among Texas’ independent voters by 2 percentage points, a narrowing among the key bloc since his 24-point leg up over Biden in June. Harris is gaining ground among women who are independent voters, who prefer her over Trump by a 6-point margin.

In Texas, voters don’t have to officially declare a party to cast a ballot. They can vote in whatever primary they choose. The Texas Tribune spoke to some of those voters who identify as independents about the state of the race, who they expect to vote for and what issues are most pressing to them.

Here are a few of their stories.

Some of these are good, and some are like chewing aluminum foil. The amount of disinfo some of these voters reveal in their thinking is heartbreaking. (And some don't seem very "independent," either.)

and bogus focus groups and how they process anything?... the miles of print devoted to the "undecided voter" is no different than the medias obsession with "understanding the Trump voter"...like we're supposed to sympathize with the assholes that are upset because their 1950's Christian whites-only America no longer exists..that embracing Trump and their shared hate for "the other" is their last hope of stopping creeping DEI..diversity/equity/inclusion..

If the "undecided voter" is somehow incapable of discerning hate from hope/dark from light than they should retreat to their underground bunkers and stay there

Back in the 2004 Bush/Kerry election, some trick-or-treaters came through the office building I worked at & one kid was all decked out in Bush gear on his backside & Kerry stuff on his front side & a sign that said "Undecided Voter." I gave him the good candy.
