Steve Schmidt: Pondering the imponderable (an essay on nazism)

What happened at Auschwitz was not incidental or accidental. This must be known —for all time — as a fact that cannot be disputed. The future of humanity is utterly dependent on understanding what happened, how it happened, and why it happened. Tucker Carson has revealed himself as something hideous and dangerous. He is a major player in America’s fascist movement led by Donald Trump.

During the last 10 years the American media has demanded that the American people ignore what is plainly in front of them in the name of “balance.” Fox News remains a partner in good standing for The New York Times and Washington Post. Access reporters deny and shade the truth with purposeful omissions that distort reality as much as anything that comes out of Trump’s mouth. All the while, no matter what, the extremism continues to spread because challenging it means challenging a convention that holds what is happening here can’t happen here because everybody hung out together at the White House Correspondents’ dinner.

Fascism thrives when democracy is weak. Fascism takes root in an instant when it can sink its teeth into power. Fascism takes root when the lie can be the truth, and what the leader says is always true. JD Vance and Donald Trump are in bed with Tucker Carlson and his pack of Nazis.

I hope you will read about Auschwitz:

Last Spring Steve Schmidt visited several spots in Eastern Europe, including Auschwitz, the concentration camp of the Nazi regime that is now a public museum. At the time he posted an article on his blog: "Auschwitz, what is its meaning?"
