Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHow cool. I just noticed that the mockingbirds have built a nest in the shrub outside
my office window. There are two eggs in it today. They had a nest in the same place last summer and raised one successful brood of 3 chicks. I'll keep you posted.

(3,894 posts)I hate mockingbirds. They are mean, hateful creatures that use to dive bomb all the cats in our neighborhood in San Antonio to the point that the poor cats heads were just huge pusballs of infected pecks and we had to make them all stay inside eventually. Bad Biirds!!! And no these cats would be doing nothing more than sunning on the porch or whatever. We had no nests near by that we could ever find and it wasn't like just on our street, blocks away my friends' cats had the same problem.

(31,997 posts)The only time they go after my cat is when they are defending a nest, and even then, she has never sustained any injuries. I think they are beautiful birds and I love to hear them sing.

(3,894 posts)well prepped to adore mockingbirds through the book. It wasn't once or twice, it was year after year all year... It was very frustrating. Maybe our neck of the woods had a mutant species or something with causing over-aggression.

(15,774 posts)they really get aggressive when they have babies in the nest...one reason they have survived. Blue Jays are aggressive during nesting season too.

(31,997 posts)Only one at a time will be gone looking for food. The nest is being watched at all times.

(15,774 posts)feral or domestic are decimating the songbird population, I would say that is a wise thing to do.

A loooooong time ago, we had one singing in our yard, night after night.
My husband would go out on the front porch, and whistle a few notes...
It wasn't long before the mockingbird was singing those exact notes.
I LOVE hearing them sing!
