A man just said I looked like a man

Last edited Mon Nov 11, 2024, 09:57 AM - Edit history (1)

I replied, "If you had discipline, you could, too."

Disclaimer: I didn't actually say that to anyone. Saw it on Threads, and laughed. It is such a good line, I shared it on its own. I didn't want to dilute it with any other comment, but I'd better. I'm just getting the hang of pushing past people blocking the aisle at the store. Working on good comebacks

Really sorry if I triggered anyone.

I'm not questioning your story Marthe, I'm simply aghast, again, at what men will say to a woman they don't even know. I wear my hair up 95% of the time & I can't tell you how many men, coworkers mostly, have told me I should wear it down. That's not even close to what this man said to you, but can you imagine a man telling another man how he should wear his hair? Or if a woman went up to a man & said, "You look like a woman." She might get punched.

Oh, & "Smile!" Probably the number one thing men say to women they don't know. I would like a dollar for every time I've heard that. The day a man tells another man to smile that will be the day.

Apparently men found my Resting Bitch Face offensive somehow. Now that I'm old I don't get that line, probably because old women are expected to be crabby, but I sure heard it a lot in my younger days. "You'd be pretty if you smiled more." Fuck that.

And I can't wrap my head around anyone telling a woman she looks like a man (or the other way around, for that matter). People got a lot of nerve.

But it's like when you get spoofed by the satire columns—it's entirely believable.

Seriously, I don't think I could think that quick. I'm more like George on Seinfeld thinking of a comeback days after the putdown he got, setting it up to get to say it, and getting putdown harder. lol

My standard reply was that only a simpleton smiles 24 hours a day. Not politically correct, I know, but this was before PC was a thing. My apologies if this offends anyone.

for the DU lounge

The quickest I've ever been on a comeback of any kind was years ago. I went to the local grocery store and picked up supplies to take to a party. I didn't use a cart, and ended up carrying 2 or 3 12 packs, and some chips. A guy in the line saw me and said, "You look loaded!" And I replied, "Oh no! Does it show?" lol

That remark was good enough to be said aloud, so it could have been heard across the room!

And I bet many of those who heard you say it would have been thinking it, too.

That was a good one!!!! We can all do that, you know.

Start listening more to conversations when someone makes

snide remarks and put yourself in the other person's mouth (so to speak).

Thanks for sharing!
