Christmas tree practice

I have never done a picture as large as 11 X 15 before, but am going to give it a try! So far my tests have told me that: I like my color palette, prefer salted snow to mask or gouache, want my star fairly undefined and glowing into the night, my tree neither too tight nor too loose, that I _do_ want to mask my snowy branches and ornaments, and that I want to do fewer layers and less rich paint in my night sky.

It's the yuletide season once again, it seems like you will have some fun decorating your tree at home.
