I have a pretty wide range of paint colors.(acrylics). But iIm interested in trying out some new ones. I have a Michaels and Blick close by, but they seem to have a somewhat limited selection. There are at least twice as many colors on their website--I've looked at Liquitex and Golden. And I have a printed catalog from Golden. What's the best way to judge colors? In print? On a website?

(15,805 posts)because the colors in print catalogs and internet images are often quite different from the actual color. Some offer swatches or color wheels for their whole paint selection at a reasonable price. Jerry's has one for about $15.
If you go to a brick and mortar store in person then you can see and compare colors and brands. If you find something you like then do a price comparison online.

(53,410 posts)I have been wanting paint that doesnt dry too fast and recently I happened to catch a YouTube video of an artist talking about only using a handful of basic colors to create his entire palette. He was using Golden and he just blew me away. The colors are more intense and vibrant than Liquitex. He uses both. Im sorry I cant remember the artist but maybe I can simply look for Golden acrylics and find more about those colors.
Im hoping I can get better results for yellow. My experience with Liquitex yellows has been basically unsatisfying. The color dries very differently to what it looks like when its wet. It becomes dull and too dark, losing all the lightness it has when its still wet. Ill try using the Golden colors next. Soon I hope.
