That little red pail and blue shovel, just waiting for the kid in you to return and build a castle! I love it!

...I came across a few days ago while sorting thru many piles of accumulated paper. Written by my now 27 year old, probably in first grade, based on the spelling. It has a rather haiku feel to it.

Rain falling
on top of my head
in front of the windo
between my figars
on the rofe
under my shoe

I also have a painting he did in daycare when he was about 2 1/2. The technique was the "paint something on one half of a page and then fold it over to make a mirror image." It sort of looked like an apple - a large red circular blob with a green stem-looking thing on top. I committed one of the terrible sins of parenthood, and rather than saying, "Tell me about your picture," as we are supposed to, I messed up and said, "Taylor, what's that a picture of?" A classic concrete 2 1/2 year old answer -

"It's a picture of paint."

It is a treasured memory.
