Not sure if used in the film or not but in the trailer they use this or one of the versions anyway. This one of the longer Benny Goodman takes of Sing, Sing, Sing :

If the latter, the use of postdated music is a serious disconnect for me.

Louis Prima's version of Sing , Sing , Sing was released March '36. Close enough I'd say.

I've yet to see the film so have no notion of when it takes place. If its '37 then the music suffices but if late '20s then maybe Fletcher Henderson maybe would've been better.

and Best Actor.

It's one of those movies that when you walk out you say---"I'm gonna buy it".

I heard people walked out demanding their $ back because they didn't realize it was for the most part a silent film. Their loss.

I did something when the movie ended I haven't done in 40 years.
I stood up and applauded, loudly.Jean Dujardin is BOFFO!!!(and so is James Cromwell)

It's a French movie, not American, about the American film industry and filmed entirely in Los Angeles by a French crew.
It's black and white.
It's a 1:66 (old fashioned square format) screen.
It's almost totally silent with cards shown for dialogue.
Doesn't even have sound effects for most of the film.

Very unusual but now in the pantheon of Best Pictures.

And it was a great film!
