I am going to try to make some mosaic stepping stones. Any tips?

I saw a large mosaic guitar at a festival last week (which was INCREDIBLE!) and I was reminded that I've always wanted to do mosaics. I'd like to make a table top for my porch some day. No idea where to get started on this. I figured some stepping stones would be an easy way to learn.

I tried to find a class in the Atlanta area but there don't seem to be any ongoing mosaic classes. Then I was told to watch a bunch of youtube videos which did help as far as what supplies to use and that sort of thing. But some of the finished projects were terrible. And then others were super advanced.

Is there a book you'd recommend? A specific video? Anything?

TIA

don't know why I didn't think of it! There is a lot of great stuff there including videos. Now I want to do the stepping stones, walkway, retaining wall, patio table...

I have this odd little section of concrete retaining wall that my sister faux painted years ago to look like stone. It was amazing but has weathered over time. I think a subtle mosaic would be very cool on it.

THANKS!

I have wanted to do this too but never have tried it. I have saved a ton of pretty colored glass bottles to break up in hopes of eventually doing a bird bath. When we were building our house one of the things I had to remove because of possible cost overruns was an idea I had with someone who did concrete step risers. They are beautiful!

There are lots of websites around that deal with working with concrete, those might be helpful. I have always wanted to do concrete projects but have never gotten around to is. You might look there and have fun! Let us know if you get something done, it will be awesome to do it!

I would love a birdbath! But I better do some practice first.

would be the easiest. I have a concrete birdbath. It is functional but ugly. I was hoping one day to use those bottles to do the inside of the bowl first and see how that goes. I was even thinking about putting some decorative stones in for them to stand on and to break up the mosaic. I am not nearly as good at this stuff than I used to be or I think I am, lol.

Pottery and concrete figures. Me too. I have a concrete floor in 2 places in my house that were stained and I love them. If I had had enough money (not even close) my house would have been made of concrete and steel. I have one exposed steel beam on my front porch and one in my living room that goes with the factory steel/wood staircase. I really wanted polished concrete floors. Now that they are starting to do injection wells about 60 miles away from me I should be glad I did not. We have had enough shakes from Oklahoma, I am in NE Kansas, so I am guessing we are going to lose some stuff with bigger shakes. Oh how I hate this....off topic.

I would be interested if you did a project if you let us know how it went. I have too many animals out here to take care of, my time for those kinds of projects is short and I am getting too old to find more energy!!
