1. I learned another version about 50 years ago. One line goes:

“Bad news, bad news, you English heroes, bad news I have for to tell,
There’s one of your ships lies sunk off the land, and all of your Merry Men drowned.”

I think that was from a John Strachan collection although this FC version is great.

Edit. This is apparently a Dylan song but the similar melody comes from the Strachan ballad, I think?? What's interesting is that Fairport Convention was involved in a very serious road accident way back when that injured some and maybe killed a member. I wonder if this was their response to it?
