Did a bike tour in the Netherlands the last 2 weeks. Great except for picking up Covid. Here are a few shots from walking around while waiting to get back home.
Evening shot from our hotelroom. Yup right over the tracks.

(18,670 posts)Leave it to the Dutch! I just love their matter-of-fact approach to so many things that Anericans get their panties in a twist about.
Very nice shots. I especially love the camera angle you used for the drawbridge shot. It almost looks like an abstract painting.
I took the pictures with my phone.
The next lot I post will likely be from my camera.

(4,647 posts)On our first trip to France, about 20 years ago, we found that in Toulouse many pharmacies had condom vending machines outside the stores. No excuses.

(4,740 posts)Seriously, these made my evening both the composition and technique , not to mention subject. I'm in love with the condom shop. Who knew?

(2,278 posts)I went on two Yellow Bikes tours in the middle 20-aughts. The Amsterdam city tour, and the Dutch countryside tour. And a few years before that, in June 2000, I went on a different Dutch countryside tour by a company called Let's Go! All of those tours in that beautiful country were truly memorable. I swear to God, that whole country is literally picture-postcard pretty.
About your drawbridge shot, when I was on the Yellow Bikes countryside tour, we stopped at a hand-cranked drawbridge that the guide cranked up and back down for us to show us how it worked. It might be the same one that's in your picture, although of course I did not see it from that perspective.
Yes, I have pictures, but they're all on the hard drives of old computers that don't work any more and I can't get to them. Some of those pictures (as well as other stuff on those computers) are precious, priceless, irreplaceable. I'm thinking of taking those computers to a computer repair shop and asking if they can put the contents of the hard drives on CDs or thumb drives for me. Rescue those irreplaceable memories.

The good thing about bike rental is the range extension you get.
We were in Holland 12 years ago and did a self supported credit card tour from Arnhem to Amsterdam via a long route. It was great. This time we were in Tilburg, a university town, for 6 days and then our group went up to Bolsward, near Sneek, for the rest of the tour.
We left a day early becasue we contracted covid. Paxlovid is great BTW. That gave us a day in Amsterdam while waiting for our train home.
The countryside is very pretty. We have signed up for one next year that will be in Germany near the Netherlands border and in another small town east of Arnhem.
