Heat ordinance passed by Pima County is first of its kind in Arizona
TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - After months of work, Pima County has finally passed the first-ever county extreme heat plan.
“I am very proud that Pima County is the first county in Arizona to adopt a heat safety ordinance,” said Pima County Board of Supervisors Chair Adelita Grijalva.
As the summer months wind down, the county put the final touches Monday on the ordinance that began its journey last May. But the county said the wait was worth it.
“Statistics and observations show that our summers are getting hotter and hotter, resulting in death and the hospitalization toll of the increasing heat is on the rise,” Grijalva said just before the vote. “It’s time for us to act and we have done so.”
