Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes reviewing complaint on GOP senator's letterhead endorsement

Democratic leaders in the Arizona Senate are calling for an investigation of Republican Sen. Wendy Rogers after she used state letterhead to endorse a candidate for Cottonwood City Council this week.

The leaders say Rogers' endorsement — on Senate letterhead with the state seal and posted to social media — violates a legal prohibition on using state resources to influence an election. In a Thursday letter, they asked Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes to investigate the potential violation.

The letter is signed by Democratic leaders Sens. Mitzi Epstein, Juan Mendez, Eva Burch and Lela Alston.

"We are, once again, disappointed by her behavior," a statement from the Democrats reads. "Arizonans deserve to have confidence in their elected officials. Senator Rogers’ action may have been done carelessly or with blatant disregard for the law. Either way, it is an abuse of her position."
