Candidates running to succeed Peskin aim to freeze out rival

With Election Day fast approaching, several candidates for supervisor in District 3 have struck ranked-choice alliances aimed at denying victory to Danny Sauter.

The contenders for the soon-to-be-vacant seat variously painted Sauter as weak on public safety, not likely to be protective enough of renters and inconsistent with his positions.

Moe Jamil, a deputy city attorney, said he initiated separate pacts with both Sharon Lai, who has been an urban planner, housing developer and nonprofit executive, and Matthew Susk, a former small business owner, to urge voters to place each other’s names above Sauter’s as a second choice.

Candidate Eduard Navarro, an entrepreneur in the investment-technology realm, later joined the discussion as well and agreed Sauter should not win.
