Gov. Lamont to close restaurants, bars, gyms and movie theaters due to coronavirus outbreak

Saying that the federal government has failed to act quickly to slow the spread of COV-19, Gov. Ned Lamont joined the governors of New York and New Jersey in ordering a mass shutdown of bars, restaurants, gyms and move theaters in the three states Monday morning.

Restaurants and bars will be allowed to continue food delivery and takeout, while supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations and other essential businesses will remain open.

The mandate will begin at 8 p.m. tonight and remain in effect until further notice. Additionally, the governors have banned gatherings of 50 or more people and are discouraging nonessential travel between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“This is changing so fast. We’ve got to work together on a coordinated basis,” Lamont said during a telephone press conference Monday with Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey.
