Feds file charges against former Delaware charter school leader for embezzlement
A charter school administrator accused of embezzling money almost two years ago is now facing federal criminal charges.
Sean Moore, who had been finance director at Family Foundations Academy in New Castle, is charged with three counts of theft. Court papers filed this week say he took nearly $160,000.
An audit of the school in 2014 examined charges on school-owned credit cards held by Sean Moore and Tennell Brewington, the school's founder and chief academic officer, for car payments, furniture, flowers, fine watches, expensive meals and concert tickets, among other things.
Shortly after that, a report from the state Auditor's Office found that the former principal of the Academy of Dover charter school, Noel Rodriguez, had spent $127,866 of school money on personal purchases and other things, including the payment of legal fees for a sexual harassment lawsuit.
