Carney wants new economic development plan

Gov. John Carney wants to consider giving local business leaders a bigger say in how Delaware attracts and maintains companies.

The new governor signed an executive order Wednesday to create a 14-member "working group" tasked with exploring the potential benefits and pitfalls of transforming the Delaware Economic Development Office into a public-private partnership.

The order marked Carney's first official action in office, coming 26 hours after his inauguration.

"Today, we go to work," he said. "And if we're going to succeed and compete with other states bigger than us, we're going to have to be smarter, we're going to have to be quicker, and we're going to have to work together."
