Women on the rise in Delaware politics and beyond

Women are on the rise in politics and some of them, from the First State, sat down with students at the University of Delaware to talk about their stories and what drives them.

Numbers have been steadily rising, and more women are being elected to be the voice of people across the nation.

Kelly Read is the vice president of the College Democrats at the University of Delaware, who helped orchestrate the gathering, where the powerful women behind the politics of the First State got to share their stories and their inspiration.

"When the mid-terms came about, we saw a record number of women running for office from the local level to the state and federal levels," said Read. "That was something that transcended party lines, partisan issues of the time, and was this awakening for women in power. We saw, for the first time, that women were being recognized across the United States as having just as much of a hold on the world of politics as men."
