like contractors who work in different geographical places or those tied to a particular politician or party that would change after elections.
For contractors, people don't want to be stuck somewhere and end up working far away with a long commute. I've been there and it sucks financially, physically, and mentally. Then I just had a conversation with my young junior coworkers yesterday who are sharing rental apartments with roommates and don't want to hear about executives with their second or third vacation houses and boats. 
I own a condo downtown in DC. And in some ways, it took a global pandemic for me to finally be able to work in my city, from home. We were a ghost town for much of the pandemic but have opened 100% capacity this past summer with indoor mask mandates. One of my coworkers bought cheap land in PA to be near his family since he can work from home. He felt it was no point paying DC area rent prices just to work from home long term.
