Georgia Voters Set Record on First Day of Early Voting
ATLANTAGeorgia voters flooded to polling places on the first day of early voting Monday, creating long waits for some as state election officials cited record turnout due to voter enthusiasm.
Some voters reported waiting for several hours to cast a ballot, including in Gwinnett County, a large suburban area of Atlanta, said county Democratic Party Chairwoman Bianca Keaton. On Monday, the wait stretched over 8 hours at Gwinnett Countys main voting location, said county spokesman Joe Sorenson. The countys other polling locations had waits varying from 1.5 to 6 hours, he said.
In Fulton County, which includes much of Atlanta, a technology mishap with check-in devices temporarily slowed voting at a major polling location at State Farm Arena before being fixed, county officials said.

Georgia is seeing record turnout for early voting because of excitement and enthusiasm, said Walter Jones, spokesman for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican. Long lines are to be expected.
