and we're stuck here, as this is where my DH's job is.

So, we get to live in redneck hell for fucking ever. We moved here 21 years ago and it wasn't like this at all.

Fast forward to tonight and a guy here won a county supervisor seat who bragged about being in DC on Jan 6th.

Quite a change in a short time.

My wife and I are making plans to move.

it was a good place to raise kids, good schools, people seemed not evil.

Now? It is horrific and will get worse.

Apparently, there are a lot more ugly-inside people than I ever imagined.

I will never forget the night that marriage equality became a reality. Seems like that may have been a turning point.

when Obama was elected and went into overdrive when TFG took office.

I'm sick to death of this, even though I know we'll be fine, because we're white and past reproductive years. I hope our schools last another five years until our youngest gets through.

We are usually really involved in politics, but I'm rethinking that...why put so much time into caucuses and other things when the state and national parties aren't even interested in winning here?

I had to run to the grocery store and I find I am looking at the people around me very differently than I used to. I realize that they actively wish harm on people who aren't exactly like them and my kid outed himself as an atheist at school a few weeks ago. That doesn't play well in this shit town.

One of our daughters still lives in Iowa but I suspect that will change soon. This is a slap in the face for our young people.

Here comes the abortion ban.

Fuck this state.

as soon as they finish college. Hopefully, they will move close enough to each other that we can find a post-retirement place near them and move out of this horrific state. I don't see it improving any time soon.
