Reversible abortions? Bill could require Kentucky doctors to tell patients it can be done

FRANKFORT — A bill that includes disputed claims that medication-induced abortions can be reversed passed through a Kentucky House committee Thursday over objections.

Opponents objected to the measure that already has been approved by the Senate, saying they had not had time to study the new version and believe the changes are unconstitutional.

Kate Miller, of the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, said the last-minute changes to Senate Bill 50 would force physicians to provide "false and misleading information" to patients that abortions induced through medication can be safely reversed.

Moreover, she said, the changes to the bill — originally designed to simply clarify the law on collecting abortion statistics in Kentucky — make it unconstitutional.
