Louisiana Democratic Party, Collins-Greenup hit it off after all

Louisiana Democratic Party, meet Gwen Collins-Greenup, the surprise of the Nov. 6 primary election. Gwen Collins-Greenup, meet the top party officials.

The introductions must have gone well Wednesday night because the Louisiana Democratic Executive Committee voted to endorse Collins-Greenup for secretary of state in the runoff election set Dec. 8.

Collins-Greenup, a business woman and court administrator from Clinton who just completed law school, came from nowhere to a second place finish in the primary election, just 10,000 votes behind Republican Acting Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin.

She did it with no money, no TV ads and few forum invites or appearances and without the backing of her party, which had endorsed Renee Fontenot Free in the race.
