Baton Rouge police: Biter exposes victim to HIV, says victim owes him money

A Baton Rouge man was arrested Saturday after he was accused of breaking into a home, attacking an occupant and exposing that person to HIV.

An officer responded to a home on Marcellious Lane, where the victim told him that Richard Covington, 48, came to talk about money the victim owed him, according to a Baton Rouge police report.

Covington banged on the front door but could not get in, so he ripped the screen and was able to force open the front door and enter without the owner’s permission, the report said.

Covington grabbed a pipe to arm himself and began attacking the victim with it, the report said. He also bit the victim on the left bicep and the left thumb while in front of witnesses and small children.

According to the report, Covington later admitted to having AIDS.
