Longtime state Sen. Fred Berry of Peabody dies
PEABODY Family members have announced through a spokesperson that longtime state Sen. Fred Berry of Peabody has passed away.
"With great sadness, the family of former Senator Fred Berry shares the news of his passing," said the announcement from the family shared by Colleen McGlynn. "Fred died peacefully on Tuesday morning after a brief illness. The family appreciates all the support and well wishes they have received during this difficult time, and asks for privacy as they make final arrangements to celebrate Freds life."
Berry, who was born with cerebral palsy, entered hospice care in August.
Over 30 years in the Senate, the last 10 of which were spent as majority leader, the Democrat was widely lauded as an effective leader who delivered for the North Shore. He was praised as an advocate for people with disabilities and those in need.
